Mass Meeting -- What is it?
A Mass Meeting may be familiar to many of you, but it can be confusing to those not engaged in the day-to-day operations of our Republican Party.
Every two years, our local Rockbridge Area Republican Committee (RARC) and the 6th District Republican Committee are required by the state party (RPV) to 'reorganize' and elect officers and delegates. In other words, we have to 'start from scratch' every two years. For this purpose, we convene ("Call") a Mass Meeting where every Republican citizen in our area (City of Buena Vista, City of Lexington and Rockbridge County) has the opportunity to join our committee, run for RARC chairman and become an officer and/or a delegate to the district convention.
Anyone and everyone who wants to play a role in the Rockbridge Area Republican Committee is given the opportunity to do so. We are open to EVERY Republican willing to help build our operation.
At a minimum, if a citizen wants to be a voting member of the official Rockbridge Area Republican Committee, they complete and sign a filing form and pay their annual dues. This same form also serves the purpose of allowing a citizen to declare their intention to be a candidate for Chairman of the RARC and/or a delegate to the District convention. A person does not have to be physically present at the Mass Meeting, but they must fill out and submit the filing form by the deadline and pay their dues in order to join the RARC, run for office or be a delegate.
